About

From the Head of School

It is my pleasure to introduce you to The O’Neal School. O’Neal is a welcoming community, and we strive to blend the joy of learning with achievement in all areas of school life. O’Neal offers a comprehensive independent school experience with a focus on academic excellence, strength of character, integrity and self-discipline as defined in our Mission Statement. Our students are held to high standards and supported by caring teachers who understand the importance of knowing every student as an individual. We create an environment where students embrace challenges, and we celebrate student success.

Our community understands the importance of the communication and partnership between families and the School. These are exceptional values of an independent school education, and student-teacher relationships are a treasured part of the O’Neal experience. In addition to high academic standards, our teachers create a positive learning environment and have the emotional intelligence to truly understand and do what is best for each student.

O’Neal’s curriculum integrates academic content, critical thinking, problem-solving and communication, preparing our students to actively engage in college, career and our increasingly connected world. Character is developed in the classroom, studio, stage and playing field. Our students graduate from O’Neal with a sense of confidence, determination and social consciousness and equipped to further themselves as successful, compassionate leaders.

For almost fifty years, O’Neal has served the Sandhills region of North Carolina. Whether you are seeking an early childhood program or a college preparatory high school, I invite you to visit our beautiful campus and meet the people who comprise this very special community and see the opportunities and possibilities of an O’Neal education.

Sincerely yours,
John C. Elmore
Head of School
